The Boy

The boy's father came from warm islands across the water, and the boy has his father's sun in his skin. His father died the summer the boy was seven. Now it is the boy and his mother, moving from village to village, sleeping wherever they're let in. He keeps the fire going. At night something comes to his door. He tells himself it's a dream.
